So...

Hey, long time no write, neh?

Well, screw it, I've been busy. Or lazy. You know, sometimes those words can be synonymous. Anyway, in response to Jade's last post, I do agree somewhat. HOWEVER, I do believe a little bit of dark sexiness goes a long way. What were vampires created for if not to fuel our darkest fantasies? Weren't they invented just so the first romance (then called gothic) novels could have a little...spice? Of course it's horribly over-sexed today, getting to the point of ridiculousness. And really, Edward Cullen? Jacob Black? NOT sexy. At all. I just find it plain creepy that grown-ass women worship those F***ers. Although, I suppose grown-ass men would be equally scary.

Moving on. I decided to remind you that my posts will not be near as long as Jade's, seeing as she's the better blogger (alliteration!). I'm more of a story writer, not an autobiographer. Jade happens to be good at both. I am also writing in to tell you how disappointed our fan(s) is/are going to be. For that one particular story (the succubus one) I did not manage to get to a sex scene. I got bored with what I was doing and moved on. Sometimes you have to take a break and wait it out until inspiration strikes again. I have been writing, though. Just not continuing that one particular story. Besides, the 1000 words a day minimum is impossible when you have an attention span as short as we (Jade and I) do.

As for the excerpt that was requested... well, I'm working on it. I have to write something really good before I feel motivated to show the public. I'm up and coming, as it were. Instead of updating everyday, like I used to, I will be writing in whenever I can or have something especially interesting to say, which should be (I hope) at least twice a month. But you know now that I've said it, it might not happen. Do not expect much of me. Just hope.

It's everyone's bread and butter nowadays.

Scarlet Carson.

The Different Kinds of Vampire

I wanted to bring up a common theme in our favourite genre to read and write in: vampires.

I've been reading in the paranormal genre for years now and vampires have always seem to have been my species of choice for any supernatural story. I think the first vampire related story I read was the first Dangerous Girls novel by R.L Stine. This may not have been the first novel that had vampires in it, it was just the first I remember to have vampirism as the main issue of the book.
So I brought up this topic tonight because I just came home from seeing the movie Daybreakers. For those who don't know, Daybreaker's is set in the future where the human race is nearly extinct due to the existance of vampires, who have overpopulated the world. Since the survival of vampires depends on human blood, the growing population of vampires begin harvesting humans for their blood in order to feed their species. The movie is set in 2019, and vampires have been evolving into souless, evil creatures from lack of blood supply. The vampires have begun losing order, as they are down to their last few captured humans, and Ethan Hawke's character, Edward (ooo, the irony) is a hemotologist who is working on creating an effective blood substitute.
Alright. I'll stop now so I don't go and give away the entire story.

I'll just say, I really enjoyed this movie. Daybreakers was gory and dark. It had the vamps with fangs, amazing contact lenses, had a great plotline, vamps grotesquely gorging on human flesh, and finally, PERFECTLY captured what Earth would be like if we had vampires in the world. I am not delusional, and I know that vampires do not exist, I am just saying, if they did, I think this would be what would become of us. We would be overpowered and used for one purpose. What was interesting to me was how the vampire species was portrayed in this movie.

First, the species had come to be as a result of a virus. That was my first hint that there would be no glamorizing of the vamps in this film. Second, they need the blood to live. Vegatarian vamps just don't survive. Rather, they turn into ghoulish, bloodthirsty monsters. And, like all vampires should, these had fangs--unlike a certain Twilight series where the vamps are mysteriously missing one of their best attributes. Meyer obviously didn't get the memo that fangs make sex that much better. Although, her lack of fangs correlate with her horrible excuse for a sex scene *exhales slowly*

Daybreakers showed a darker side of desperation of vampiric bloodlust. It was scary to see how inhibited and savage people could get when there was a shortage, or a depletion of something they need to survive. Kind of reminded me of Lord of the Flies actually. Odd reference, I know. I just remember reading it in the ninth grade and having to analyze it. How without any rules, or order, or food, man loses all form of civility and control. Brings you back to paleolithic times when humans just did what they needed to live; morals, laws, and other people's feelings be damned. I dunno. That aspect of the movie just fascinated me. I just wondered, if our water supply eventually depleted to the point that there's not enough drinkable water for our ever growing population, if we would be driven to acts of cruelty to quench our thirst.

I know that there is currently a humungous fan base for paranormal/supernatural/fantasy romance. During this era, vampires, werewolves, demons, witches, have all been SEXIFIED to suit our new tastes. Yes, we like our vamps and wolves big, manly, possessive, sexy, strong, with a heart of gold for their mates, and a stunning 6 pack to complete the package. The Scottish warriors circa 15th century or the mysterious nobles that entrance ladies with titles in luxurious gowns have been exchanged for alpha males with brute strength, magical power and best of all, fangs. I have to admit that I have a very large collection of books featuring the latter in my bookshelf. But once in a while, I like seeing other portrayals of the paranormal species. Like the vamps in 30 Days of Night, or the werewolves in the Underworld series. I highly recommend.

I don't exactly know what I was trying to convey in this post tonight. I am quite frightened that in the morning I'll re-read the philosophical babbling from one paragraph and cringe...but whatever. I'm tired and I don't really remember what my point was at the beginning of this massive entry.

To conclude my bloody essay:
Watch Daybreakers; It's freaking awesome.

It's been a long time coming!

Happy New Year! My New Years Resolution is to finish a bloody story. Long-shot at least. I really aim high, don't I? ;)

I'm waving a white flag for ANY readers out there that we may have. I doubt it, but even so, know that I--scratch that--we [as in] Scarlet and I feel absolutely terrible for temporarily abandoning our blog. It has been...well, since Thanksgiving, a shameful amount of time to put off writing posts that takes about fifteen minutes. I could attribute our three month disappearance from our blog to busyness or lack free time, but to be honest, we always make time for our writing. And reading of course. Just to fill you in, Scarlet and I have created many more challenges in the past couple months. Our list is getting larger, and our list of complete stories still remains significantly lower than the former. Scarlet's list of complete challenge stories stands at a whopping five is it? I'm probably incorrect but I'll let her fix that. However, I know for sure that her story idea list as well as mine is never-ending, which is why our challenge ideas pour onto our papers even if we are still working on previous challenges. We leave our unfinished work saved in hopes that we will return to them. And for most of them, we do.

So my reason for today's return is due to a sudden gust of writer's fever that I caught tonight. A couple of days ago Scarlet and I got together with some friends for a birthday. At the party, we ended up giving one another three requirements for a new challenge: 2 people, locked in a room, and the story must begin with a kiss. You may be thinking that isn't very original OR inspiring, but the paranormal romance, which will obviously result from these specifications, is our familiar place. We're simple like that. These challenges usually come up between others with harder requirements. Such as Scarlet staying away from paranormal worlds or magic entirely, and me avoiding angst or romance. It's hard, what can I say? Those genres make for great plot bunnies.
Anyways, with our challenge, we started by hand and Scarlet got a good 4 pages F&B while I finished a dismal one and a half pages. I blame that on my laziness for writing pen and paper style. I am a lazy writer. Horrible to admit, but I can knowing that only Scarlet may judge me for it. She puts up with my writing quirks and I hers. How many of you still prefer pen and paper to Word? I'm just curious.

So plot bunnies ran wild and I ended up with over 1000 words of goodness. Barely edited, you'll be pleased to find, Scarlet. I think it's rather good. So good, in fact, that I may avoid editing entirely. Readers, you should know that I have a devoted and gratuitous relationship with the backspace key. I tend to rethink things through several THOUSAND times while I'm writing. This results in me going over something that looked right a minute ago and changing it because I had a change in perspective in 60 seconds. The only time I don't do this is when blogging, as you'll notice from my errors. :)

So. I decided against posting an exerpt because I just think I need to run it by Scarlet's Editor's Eye tomorrow. Sorry. But I brought you an update, because of my need to ramble. I'm sure you're all greatly appreciative (not). But an update from me, brings an obligated Scarlet.

Another insanely early update,

-Jade Black
