It's been a long time coming!

Happy New Year! My New Years Resolution is to finish a bloody story. Long-shot at least. I really aim high, don't I? ;)

I'm waving a white flag for ANY readers out there that we may have. I doubt it, but even so, know that I--scratch that--we [as in] Scarlet and I feel absolutely terrible for temporarily abandoning our blog. It has been...well, since Thanksgiving, a shameful amount of time to put off writing posts that takes about fifteen minutes. I could attribute our three month disappearance from our blog to busyness or lack free time, but to be honest, we always make time for our writing. And reading of course. Just to fill you in, Scarlet and I have created many more challenges in the past couple months. Our list is getting larger, and our list of complete stories still remains significantly lower than the former. Scarlet's list of complete challenge stories stands at a whopping five is it? I'm probably incorrect but I'll let her fix that. However, I know for sure that her story idea list as well as mine is never-ending, which is why our challenge ideas pour onto our papers even if we are still working on previous challenges. We leave our unfinished work saved in hopes that we will return to them. And for most of them, we do.

So my reason for today's return is due to a sudden gust of writer's fever that I caught tonight. A couple of days ago Scarlet and I got together with some friends for a birthday. At the party, we ended up giving one another three requirements for a new challenge: 2 people, locked in a room, and the story must begin with a kiss. You may be thinking that isn't very original OR inspiring, but the paranormal romance, which will obviously result from these specifications, is our familiar place. We're simple like that. These challenges usually come up between others with harder requirements. Such as Scarlet staying away from paranormal worlds or magic entirely, and me avoiding angst or romance. It's hard, what can I say? Those genres make for great plot bunnies.
Anyways, with our challenge, we started by hand and Scarlet got a good 4 pages F&B while I finished a dismal one and a half pages. I blame that on my laziness for writing pen and paper style. I am a lazy writer. Horrible to admit, but I can knowing that only Scarlet may judge me for it. She puts up with my writing quirks and I hers. How many of you still prefer pen and paper to Word? I'm just curious.

So plot bunnies ran wild and I ended up with over 1000 words of goodness. Barely edited, you'll be pleased to find, Scarlet. I think it's rather good. So good, in fact, that I may avoid editing entirely. Readers, you should know that I have a devoted and gratuitous relationship with the backspace key. I tend to rethink things through several THOUSAND times while I'm writing. This results in me going over something that looked right a minute ago and changing it because I had a change in perspective in 60 seconds. The only time I don't do this is when blogging, as you'll notice from my errors. :)

So. I decided against posting an exerpt because I just think I need to run it by Scarlet's Editor's Eye tomorrow. Sorry. But I brought you an update, because of my need to ramble. I'm sure you're all greatly appreciative (not). But an update from me, brings an obligated Scarlet.

Another insanely early update,

  1. Oh, Jade. I have read your work (right along with Scarlet) and I'm sure we BOTH agree that you should post an excerpt!!!
With your writing, it's always quality over quantity (which is far more than mine, I can tell you) so I can tell, with the honesty of a friend (which isn't really all that honest, come to think of it--white lies, much?) and with the honesty of a person who's (usually) blunt (yes, that's far more honest than a friend), I can tell you that it's VERY good!!
I was at that party, and though I wasn't writing a story for the challenge, I was still writing--and finished with a dismal two paragraphs. So you can comfort yourself with the fact that there IS someone who is lazier.
Hopefully, you'll update regularly from now one (I'm laughing as I type this), unlike me, procrastinator that I am.
Oh, and, Scarlet, if you're reading this, I absolutely love your little excerpts!! You should definitely post more (and longer) ones!! No, that wasn't an innuendo.
Speaking of, where's that promised sex scene? The only one I ever read of from a friend was from our (hockey) friend. I NEED to see one in your style! And that goes for you, too, Jade!
Now I have to go, so post more, so I can comment more!!
