The throne of distraction

Outline word count: 1573+
Hours put into researching topics for story: At least 10
Word count for actual story: 0

Hi everyone. It's Jade, now two days behind and writing to you from my distracted, over-analyzing, LATE deep hole of shame. I know I am late with my entry and I have no story yet to show for it. [Readers should now pester Scarlet about disclosing her fantastic ideas for her story.] She's over 2000 words into it and I am dying to read what she's got so far.

So I owe Scarlet and anybody else reading an apology for not keeping up with our first challenge, only two days in. I cannot tell you about what I've written so far because well, I haven't started writing the story yet. Don't get me wrong, I have been writing, researching, and have been on a two-day pursuit for relevant background information for my story. I guess I should explain why the hell is it taking me so long to start it.

Credit for the wild choice of subject for our first challenge is all due to Scarlet. While I knew what an Incubus was, I didn't know the extent of what they were or their characteristics beyond 'entering women's dreams and having sex with them,' in addition to their ability to exhaust and kill their victims during the act. I should mention that I had an original idea for the story, which basically featured a man that developed into an incubus and his problems and relationships from that point onward. I figured it would be pretty damn hard to stay in a stable relationship when you crave sex from different partners all the time. Unless your girlfriend/boyfriend is into infedelity.

Anyways, I thought I should look up some stuff for this story since I needed some sort of back-plot. I searched multiple sources which delved into the origin of incubae, and it's subtle connection to religion. Then I found out that incubi were a type of demon, which was when I just had to look up the other ones.

Yes, I realize I've reached a whole new level of nerd right now. Sue me. I told Scarlet today that I trashed my previous idea and was thinking of using existing myths, and theories to use as the 'world' of my story. I babbled on about all of my "findings" and she listened and was supportive. I'm grateful, considering I was talking incessently, and was practically foaming at the mouth. Stop me next time Scarlet. For your poor ears' sake.

So with all the crap I've collected, I am almost done deciding how exactly I'm going to proceed with my story. Unfortunately, I have no character names to disclose yet. But I am pretty sure that my story will be from multiple points of view and will take place in mostly modern times, but will flashback to different times in ancient history. I have decided that the main characters lives' will all be interlinked in some way. It will be from the POV of a human, vampire, incubus, AND succubus so far. My story will be a thriller; with lots of angst and smut. Will not be a typical, fluffy romance I assure you. I'm going for darker themes, and as Scarlet could tell you, it's my favourite genre to write in.

The prologue will contain some religious aspects that some people may or may not be familiar with. My story is not going to be entirely based on religion or pre-existing myths. I am using the religious figure to explain the origin of some of my characters.

Hmm. I'm not giving you much, am I? I know, the only thing worse than waiting for someone to finish writing is waiting for someone who takes her fucking time to write. Scarlet is the impeccably prompt one of the two of us. She will make her due dates, be the first one to arrive anywhere, and as you will see, produce the most brilliant pieces of writing. I...well, I have my faults: procrastination, unavoidable use of profanity, to name a few.

But I promise you, my story will come. Even if I have to strap myself to my keyboard for the next week.

God fuckin' speed,

-JB
